Doctor: Dr. Reza Firoozabadi

Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

In June 2013 I was hit by a wrong way driver while at work on my police motorcycle. I was taken to the Harborview emergency room after a first stop at a local hospital. I honestly do not remember much of that experience but I wound up in the ICU I met a multitude of doctors while I waited for surgery I must say the staff in the ICU was wonderful to all my friends and family who came to see me.. When you are a motorcycle officer you are part of a brotherhood so there were many, many officers in and around the ICU at all times it seemed.

I was told I had an "open book" pelvis fracture and a ruptured bladder to go with it. Of course I had no idea what that really meant for me or what it entailed to get me fixed up. Dr. Firoozabadi came to the ICU at some point and introduced himself to me. He was very calm and professional and even in my frightened state he was able to confer a sense of calm confidence to me. When it was time for surgery Dr. Firoozabadi took time to talk to my wife and put her at ease as much as he could. He made sure she was comfortable and updated often during my surgery. That meant more to me than you can know. At no time did he seem arrogant or uncaring. He did not treat us like just another pelvis patient. He and his team were professionals at all times. I can go on and on about this brilliant surgeon but there is just too many things to list.

I have spent almost 7 months in rehab since my surgery and plan on being back on the job this June. Thanks to my brilliant surgeon and his team and also my wonderful family I will be back working soon.

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

Dr. Firoozabadi spoke to us plainly and did not use overly technical terms. He answered all our questions and gave us good honest answers. He gave us his contact information and even called my wife and me when we needed to talk to him about something while I was in physical therapy.

Dr. Firoozabadi seemed like a buddy when we went to see him. He is genuinely interested in us as people instead of viewing us as just a medical case or one of dozens of people he sees every day. That means something in this sterile non personal world.
