Patient Profile

Profession: Retired
Hobbies: Gardening/ Horticulture, Golfing, Hiking/ Camping
Doctor: Kushagra Verma MD, MS

Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

After two previous failed back surgeries, I was referred to Dr. Verma. After reviewing my history and scans, he didn't want to proceed with another surgery until other options were exhausted. I was referred for physical therapy, which was not helpful, and it was then Dr. Verma scheduled surgery. He first caged my L-3, and then removed and replaced the hardware going from L-4 to my sacrum, which in turn increased the curvature in my back from 9% to 22%. This reduced the stress on my sacrum and relieved my pain.

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

I immediately felt comfortable with Dr. Verma. He is skilled, honest, compassionate and kind.
Dr. Verma was very thorough explaining the surgery process, and always gave us the time we needed for questions and concerns.

What can you do now that you could not do before surgery? Have you been able to return to your hobbies or sports at the same level as pre-injury or at an even higher level?

I've been able to return to an active lifestyle of golfing, hiking and gardening ~ without pain.

What advice would you like to share with a patient with a condition such as yours who is considering surgery?

If possible, consult with Dr. Verma. I have the utmost confidence in him, and he will do whatever he possibly can to improve your condition.
