Profession: Other
Doctor: Dr. Kushagra Verma

Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

Severe Acute back pain, sciatica, incontinence.

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

We were struck by the professionalism and the compassion of Dr. Verma. Even though my mother-in-law had language barriers as she hardly spoke any english, it was personal for Dr. Verma to make sure that she understood what was causing her back pain and the treatment options. Dr. Verma was always compassionately patient with her, and his calm demeanor gave my mother-in-law a lot of confidence and faith that she will be fine with the surgery. Surgery was the last thing she wanted and before meeting Dr. Verma, she dreaded the idea of having a second surgery on her back. Her fears were all put to rest when she met Dr. Verma. Even after the surgery, Dr. Verma was as involved in the care for my mother-in-law and practically became like a family member who passionately cared for her full and quick recovery.

What can you do now that you could not do before surgery? Have you been able to return to your hobbies or sports at the same level as pre-injury or at an even higher level?

My mother-in-law could hardly walk, stand, get out of bed, or even give herself a shower. That all changed within three weeks after Dr. Verma performed the back surgery on her. Her lower back pain is all gone and she is now walking without a cane or support and slowly getting back to normal life.

What advice would you like to share with a patient with a condition such as yours who is considering surgery?

Do you want a doctor who will be a part of your family, who is compassionate, caring and passionate with unmatched professionalism? Then Dr. Verma is the right fit for you.

When health challenges hit our family, we not only needed a partner in the healthcare with shared values but also with the best professional practice in the industry. We got both in Dr. Verma. He became the source of calm in the midst of the turbulent and violent health storm our family was in the midst of. There were obvious signs that severe pain had taken its toll on my mother in law and she was starting to slowly give up on life. Dr. Verma, looking straight in the eyes on my 68 year old mother-in-law, reassured her that she still had a lot life left in her. He didn't just say the words, but actually gave her another lease on life when he performed the back surgery on her. Thank you Dr. Verma.
