Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

I am a 52 yr old female, living with Rheumatoid arthritis & Fibromyalgia since age 35 & I live in Boise, ID. In June of 2010 I tore up my left shoulder beyond fixing after trying to get a 1/2 gallon of milk out of fridge. My right shoulder already was a non-moving body part due to 4 Labral and Cuff tear surgeries. So my doc here went on a search for someone to perform the "REVERSE ROTATOR CUFF REPLACEMENT" in my left shoulder at age 50, a surgery not recommended till one is over 60. After going to U of U then almost every shoulder doc here and 1 other doc in Seattle no one said yes. Then on Oct. 8, 2010 I flew up and saw Dr. Warme. After seeing Alex, his PA then, and the doc, within 30 minutes we were setting up a surgery date.

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

There is ONE thing that stands out mostly about the doc and team is THEY ARE AWESOME!!! Nurse Steve is and will always be one of the top of the line RN's on earth. Every single person from Pre-op to the OR to Post-op to In-patient were the best!!!! Only flaw worthy of saying is there was NO Dr. Pepper anywhere to be found then the good doc brought me some!!!!

What can you do now that you could not do before surgery? Have you been able to return to your hobbies or sports at the same level as pre-injury or at an even higher level?

I will never be able to use my arms at a level I did in my left side and the right side started out non-moving and I can use it now. The list of stuff I won't ever do and what will happen if I were to go over my limits is way longer than other but I can move both arms and I can hug!!! I also get to set off metal detectors!!! I also can do some of the simplest tasks that are taken for granted till one can't do anymore. I CAN was given to me by Dr. Warme!!

What advice would you like to share with a patient with a condition such as yours who is considering surgery?

If a person gets to the point to have this surgery they are at the end of the list of possible solutions. A person already knows the pain from shoulder surgery and I won't lie, this friggen hurts! But Steve and his group will make sure you get as comfortable as you can get. But know that will go away. And the rehab or PT as you have learned from previous surgery or surgeries is totally opposite of all that. But it works!! And only one shoulder done does not set off metal detectors...

Please share any additional comments!

This last weekend almost 2 1/2 yrs for left shoulder and 15 months after right shoulder I pushed my 8 yr old Great Niece on a swing and swung a tennis racket actually hit the ball. I cried. Without Dr. Warme and his team that would have never happened. He is the BEST!
